OUR STORY

Al and Carol Baxter Founders of On Edge Mobile Sharpening

In 1998, after working at a company sharpening knives, Al, a retired Firefighter, decided to set up a mobile sharpening service, and named it Unified. In 2017 he changed the name to On Edge Mobile Sharpening. Al would take care of the sharpening and Carol would handle the business side (and gave Al an allowance). Through the decades, Al perfected his craft and included scissors and tools.

In May of 2020, Joe was driving by the Bradford Common in Haverhill, Ma., and noticed On Edge Mobile Sharpening set up at the Haverhill Garden Clubs Annual Plant sale. He stopped to have a knife sharpened and was impressed at the quality of the job Al had done on the knife. Being his last customer of the day, they began to talk. Al told him that he was planning to sell the business the following year when he turned 80 years old. Joe told Becky about his conversation with Al and she thought how nice it would be to have a part-time interest after retirement the next year. In June of 2021, Carol passed and in December of 2021 Joe and Becky bought On Edge Mobile Sharpening, continuing the legacy of Al and Carol.
